Building on a Foundation of Reading

The Library Foundation, founded in 1991, was formed to establish and build an endowment fund for the Newberg Public Library. Funds are provided through the interest from this endowment to purchase items needed to enhance and improve services which citizens receive from Newberg Public Library. The Foundation provides a means for library supporters to make donations that will help maintain a permanent, supplemental income source for Newberg Public Library.

Since 1997 the Foundation has made annual gifts to the library from the interest earned on the endowment.  Some of these projects have included:

• Funds to enhance the collections in the areas of science, geography and children's classics.
• Funds to implement compact disc collections in both music and books
• Annual support of a program to place a library card in the hand of every kindergaten student in the area.
• Supplemental funding for technology enhancements to provide state-of-the-art services to library patrons.

Today, the Foundation continues to grow the endowment to fund programs and services such as those described above.

A new project is the expansion of the Children's Library.   This project will raise $750,000 in the next three years to increase the children's area by 40% and make much needed improvements to the 25 year old building.   For more information on this project, go to Making Room to Read.
