Making Room to Read

The Children's Library is too small and with your help, we can make it grow.
When the remodeled library opened in 1985, there were 23,000 books in the entire library. Today there are 23,000 books in the Children's Library alone!
Last year Newberg Library programs for youth in the Chehalem Valley served over 21,000 kids. Additionally, the number of items checked out has grown 214%, while the population of Newberg is up 95%.
In 2006, a citizen's committee and architectural firm identified three pressing needs:
Making Room to Read goals:
1. Expand Children's Library
- Enlarge Children's Library 40% by opening up existing unfinished space
- Add a family restroom
- Provide new furniture and shelving
2. Program/Meeting Room
- Renovate the existing meeting room to better accommodate children's programs and other uses
- Reconfigure space for the Library Friends
3. Noise Reduction
- Add windows and sound-proofing to the open lobby reducing transmission of noise and voices from the Children's Library and lobby to the upstairs of the library
